Dappling an indication of good health?

Good afternoon. I have an ongoing discussion with a group of my friends. We were talking about dapples and whether or not all colors of horses get them. It was discussed that maybe one sign of good health is a dappled coat. If that's the case, maybe I need to get one of my horses checked out. She never dapples up. Any facts behind the dapples?

Good question, and I don't have a good answer. I am not certain of whether or not all horses will dapple. My feeling is that they won't as the dappling is a function of hair follicle expression. We certainly see more dappling in grey and bay colors but I don't the answer, so I'll have to do some research on that one and get back with you.
